The short version

We only collect the information we need to help you learn maths. We never sell your data, show you ads, or share your information with anyone else. Your practice data is visible only to you — and a parent or guardian if they manage your account. You can ask us to delete your account at any time — we'll do it promptly. Privacy Policy

Last updated: 11 July 2026

1. About This Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Numina collects, uses, and protects the personal data of all users, with particular care for the data of children. Numina is designed around the principles of COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act), GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation), and other applicable privacy laws: minimal data collection, no advertising, no third-party tracking, and parent-managed accounts for young children.

2. Information We Collect

We collect: (a) Account information — an optional display name and your chosen preferences (such as accent colour and theme); (b) Usage data — sessions completed, questions answered, scores, and practice history; (c) Technical data — device type and browser for debugging purposes only. Sign-in uses Internet Identity, so we never see or store a password or email address. We do not collect location data, phone numbers, or any unnecessary personal information.

3. Children's Privacy (COPPA & GDPR-K)

Numina welcomes learners of all ages — 6 to adult — and is built around the principles of COPPA and GDPR-K for its youngest users. If a learner is under 13, a parent or guardian should create and manage the account and is responsible for the decision to use the service. We collect only the minimal data needed to run the service (an optional display name and practice history), we do not display advertising, and we do not share children's data with third parties for marketing or profiling purposes.

4. How We Use Your Data

We use your data exclusively to: provide and personalise your Numina learning experience; track your practice progress, tier advancement, and mastery; generate your certificates and award records; improve the platform and fix bugs. We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any commercial purpose beyond operating the service.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell or rent personal data. Your practice data is not visible to other users — community totals are aggregated, and leaderboards show only entries under a chosen display name. We may share data with service providers who help us operate the platform, under strict confidentiality agreements and data processing terms. We do not share data with advertisers, data brokers, or social networks.

6. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on the Internet Computer, a decentralised, tamper-resistant infrastructure. We apply appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data against unauthorised access, loss, or disclosure. Your session data is retained for as long as your account is active.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to: access the personal data we hold about you; correct inaccurate data; request deactivation of your account and removal of your personal identifiers from our records; restrict or object to processing; data portability where applicable. Parents and guardians may exercise these rights on behalf of a child under 13. To exercise your rights, contact us at privacy@numina.app.

8. Cookies and Local Storage

Numina uses browser local storage and minimal cookies solely for authentication and user preferences (such as your chosen accent colour and settings). We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or any third-party analytics trackers.

9. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. If you request removal, we will deactivate the account and remove personal identifiers (such as names) from its records within 30 days. Because Numina runs on tamper-resistant infrastructure, the underlying de-identified learning records (scores, practice history) are retained in anonymised form rather than physically erased, and may be used in aggregate for platform improvement.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the law or our practices. For material changes, we will provide at least 14 days' notice where possible. Continued use of Numina after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

11. Contact and Data Controller

For privacy questions, data access requests, or to request removal of your or your child's personal data, contact us at privacy@numina.app. For support, billing, or account help, please use the Caffeine support channels.
